Five-Star DL L.J. McCray Commits To Florida

Five-Star DL L.J. McCray made it official today when he formally announced his commitment to the Florida Gators. He committed to the Gators over Georgia, Auburn, Florida State and Miami among many other offers. He has visited Florida on numerous occasions and was one of, if not the top target on the board. The Daytona Beach (Fla.) native is ranked the #6 overall player and the #2 defensive lineman in the country according to 247sports composite rankings.

Florida defensive line coach Sean Spencer continues to show why he's one of the best defensive line coaches. He was the primary recruiter for McCray and did a tremendous job to secure his commitment. We all know about Spencer's track record as a recuiter and as a coach. He's put countless defensive linemen into the NFL and McCray has a great chance to be the next great defensive lineman to learn from him.

L.J. McCray has continued to rise up the rankings as he makes plays on the field every week for Mainland High School. As a junior for the Buccaneers, he had 47 tackles, including 17.5 for loss and 3 sacks. This season he's turned it up a notch, showing why he's now a five-star recruit. He has 36 total tackles, including 15 for loss, 7 sacks and a fumble recovery. Mainland is 8-0 this season, and he's a big reason why.

Standing at 6-foot-6, 270 lbs, McCray is a guy that has the height and frame to play in the SEC. He has a chance to come in and immediately make a major impact as a true freshman. What makes him such a gifted player is the fact that he can play outside on the edge and on the inside as a defensive tackle at an equally high level. His versatility makes him one of the most dominant players along the line of scrimmage. He has a great motor, is great at setting the edge and is one of the best pass rushers in the 2024 class. He's a complete player and both Austin Armstrong and Sean Spencer are definitely excited to coach him for the next 3-4 years.

L.J. McCray is one of the crown jewels of this class and would really be the crown jewel of any class across the country. Someone as highly rated as him is sure to have big time players that want to play with him. The staff is continuing to recruit at a very high level, but adding a player like McCray to could help things even more. I believe he’s gonna be a special in Gainesville and is the type of player that could see his name etched in stone (literally) by earning All-American honors before his time in the Swamp is over.
