The Florida Gators have landed a huge commitment as Four-Star DB Sharif Denson has committed to Florida over Texas A&M, Miami and Florida State among others. Denson has visited Florida on numerous occasions and came away raving about all of his visits. The Jacksonville (Fla.) native is ranked the #206 overall player and the #24 cornerback in the country according to 247sports composite ranking. I expect him to rise up the rankings after a strong performances at camps this summer.
Corey Raymond and Patrick Toney played key roles in the recruitment of Denson as they’re regarded as two of the best defensive back coaches in the country. The relationship that Denson has with Raymond and Toney is what ultimately what pushed Florida over the top and led to him making a commitment on Monday. The Gators provide him with an opportunity to play early and add to a loaded secondary, and he has the ability to play multiple positions and make some big time plays. He’ll get that chance in 2023 should he follow through and sign on the dotted line with the Gators.
After scheduling multiple visits to Florida for the past couple of years, there was a feeling that Florida was really starting to trend for him. Texas A&M, Miami and Florida State were the other schools in contention, but it always seemed like a three team race between the Gators, Hurricanes and Seminoles until Texas A&M jumped into the picture late.
Denson is the type of player that can come in and make a major impact early in his career. Standing in at just under 6-foot and 170 pounds, he’ll have to put on some weight, but he has the prototypical frame for an SEC defensive back. He’s very poised and has the ability to play anywhere in the secondary. He’s one of the best defensive backs in the country, and securing the commitment of Denson early will allow Florida to shift their focus to adding more playmakers in the secondary with him. Billy Napier and his staff will continue to try and surrounding him with elite defensive playmakers. If they are able to do that it would really signify that recruiting has made a huge jump under the new regime.
Sharif Denson is a great kid with a very bright future. I believe he’s gonna be a special player and make a major impact both on and off the field whenever he steps on campus. I'd even go as far as saying that I think he has a chance to earn a coveted All-American brick outside of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium before it's all said and done.
