Florida Gators Offense Explodes In Dominant Win vs. #4 Ole Miss
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators put together their most impressive performance of the young season Saturday afternoon, overwhelming No. 4 Ole Miss 52-28 in front of a raucous crowd at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Against one of the nation’s top-ranked teams, Florida’s offense proved too much to handle. The Gators controlled the game with a physical rushing attack, timely quarterback play and an explosive second-half performance that turned a competitive matchup into a statement victory. Florida entered the afternoon averaging more than 54 points per game, and that offensive production continued against the Rebels.
Jadan Baugh & Duke Clark Shine
The centerpiece was running back Jadan Baugh. Baugh carried the Gators’ offense throughout the afternoon, rushing for 142 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries. His performance helped Florida establish control on the ground and repeatedly put Ole Miss in difficult situations. Duke Clark provided an equally impressive complement. Clark exploded for 126 rushing yards and a touchdown, including a 45-yard scoring run in the third quarter that gave Florida important momentum after Ole Miss had pulled within striking distance. Together, Baugh and Clark helped Florida finish with 302 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Aaron Philo also delivered an efficient performance. Philo completed 16 of 23 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown without throwing an interception. He added a rushing touchdown as Florida repeatedly found ways to keep the Ole Miss defense off balance.
Gators Offense Strikes Early
The Gators opened the game with immediate control. Baugh capped Florida’s opening possession with a four-yard touchdown run, giving the Gators an early lead. Florida’s defense then came up with a crucial fourth-down stop, allowing the offense to add a 49-yard field goal and extend the advantage to 10-0. Baugh found the end zone again in the second quarter, giving Florida a 17-3 lead before Ole Miss answered with a pair of field goals. The Rebels entered halftime trailing 17-6, but the third quarter briefly threatened to change the game’s complexion. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss led the Rebels back into the game with his legs, scoring twice during the third quarter as Ole Miss pulled within 24-21.
Florida Answered The Challenge
Florida, however, had an answer every time the Rebels appeared ready to seize momentum. Clark broke loose for his 45-yard touchdown run, and Philo later scored on a quarterback sneak to push the Gators back ahead. Florida took a 31-21 advantage into the fourth quarter. From there, the Gators took complete control. Dallas Wilson opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with a six-yard touchdown run. After Ole Miss answered with a touchdown pass from Chambliss to Deuce Alexander, Florida responded with another touchdown drive, with Philo connecting with Amir Jackson for a five-yard score. Baugh then put the finishing touches on the victory with his third touchdown of the afternoon. The result was a 21-point fourth quarter for Florida and a 52-point offensive explosion against a top-five opponent.
Gators Take Control
Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss finished with 298 passing yards and a touchdown while adding two rushing touchdowns. Deuce Alexander led the Rebels with seven receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown. But the afternoon belonged to the Gators. Florida finished with 498 total yards, including 302 on the ground, while committing no turnovers. The Gators also held the ball for nearly 37 minutes, consistently controlling the tempo and wearing down the Rebels.
Florida Gators Make A Statement
For head coach Jon Sumrall, the victory represents another major step in his first season leading the Gators. Florida is now 4-0 and has opened SEC play with two victories. More importantly, the Gators showed they can match their explosive offense with the physicality required to beat one of the nation’s highest-ranked teams. Florida’s offense had already been one of the most productive units in the country entering Saturday. Against No. 4 Ole Miss, it proved it could do it on the biggest stage. The Gators didn’t simply survive a top-five matchup. They dominated the game from start to finish.
