Five-star WR Vernell Brown III has always had the Florida Gators in his blood. The legacy recruit's grandfather and father both played football at The University Of Florida, so once the Gators offered him, they immediately became a contender for his commitment. On Sunday, that became a reality as he commited to Florida over Florida State, Miami and Ohio State. Brown is the type of player that’s a pure playmaker every time he touches the ball. The Orlando, Florida native checks in as the #25 overall player and the #6 wide receiver according to the 247sports composite rankings.
Billy Napier and Billy Gonzales deserve a lot of credit for the recruitment of Wilson as they made him feel like a priority every time he visited. Those relationships played a major role for Brown, and ultimately why he decided Florida was the right school for him on Saturday, July 21. One of the best aspects about the Gators coaching staff is the fact that they know how to build relationships with recruits and that usually that helps when it’s time for them to commit.
Brown has been a huge riser in the rankings over the past few months based on his performances at camps during the summer. He became one of the most coveted prospects in the country and reeled in offers from almost every major power 5 school. The rising senior from Jones High School caught 70 passes for 1,363 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He's a two sport athlete, as he also runs track for his school. You can tell that his speed on the track translates onto the football field as well. He's a legit football player that just so happens to excel in track as well.
Standing at 5’11" 170 pounds, Vernell Brown III has the ability to play on the outside or in the slot. What makes him such a unique player is the fact that he can be a playmaker in the return game as well. With his speed, he can take the top off the defense, while also going up and high pointing the ball from opposing DBs. Simply put, he's one of the best playmakers in the country. He has a chance to get on the field immediately, and he's definitely the type of receiver the Gators have been missing for the past few years.
Vernell Brown III is the type of kid that can be a game changer at the wide receiver position for the Florida Gators. I believe he has a chance to be an All-SEC caliber player. His speed makes him a mismatch nightmare for opposing DBs, and he’s exactly the type of player that Florida needs. He plays with extreme confidence and poise, and that rubs off on his teammates as well. He’s a great person, player and has a very bright future ahead of him.
